We’re Hiring: Full-time Furniture Finisher

Southpaw Furniture is looking for the right person to add to our team in a full-time finishing role.

Our finishers are an important part of what we do. Every piece we build is handcrafted from solid hardwood, and the finish is one of the final steps before that piece goes into a customer’s home. It affects how the furniture looks, feels, and holds up over time, and we take that responsibility seriously.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in careful, consistent work and understands that finishing is both a technical skill and an important part of the customer experience. The right person will be practical, detail-oriented, dependable, and willing to be part of a team that cares deeply about quality.

This is a full-time W-2 position located conveniently off I-94 in STURTEVANT, WI. Easy commute access for those along I-94 in Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. Regular work hours are 9:00am–5:00pm, Monday through Friday. There may be occasional days when this person needs to stay an hour or two later, depending on production needs or delivery schedules. This role is primarily focused on finishing.

Responsibilities include:

• Sanding and preparing solid hardwood furniture for finish
• Applying stains, oils, sealers, topcoats, and other furniture finishes
• Spraying, wiping, brushing, or otherwise applying finish depending on the product and process
• Inspecting pieces for consistency, quality, and readiness before they leave the shop
• Touching up or repairing finishes as needed
• Managing inventory of finishes, stains, sealers, topcoats, sandpaper, and other finishing supplies
• Working carefully around handcrafted furniture at various stages of production
• Keeping the finishing area clean, organized, and safe
• Following established finishing processes and helping improve them over time
• Communicating clearly with the shop team about timing, quality, and any issues that come up
• Helping load, deliver, and set up furniture in customers’ homes, as needed
• Assisting with other shop tasks, as needed

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Experienced with furniture finishing, woodworking, painting, spraying, cabinetry, or a related hands-on trade
• Careful, patient, and detail-oriented
• Comfortable doing repetitive work while maintaining a high standard
• Able to notice small differences in color, sheen, surface quality, and overall appearance
• Reliable, practical, and safety-minded
• Comfortable working with finishing products, tools, and equipment
• Able to follow established processes consistently
• Able to work well with a small team in a busy shop environment
• Able to safely lift and move heavy solid hardwood furniture
• Friendly, respectful, and professional when working in the shop and in customers’ homes
• Described by others as having good judgment and pride in their work
• Knowledge and experience with hard wax oil application, or spraying polyurethane is a plus

Pay:

Starting pay is $21–$24/hour, depending on experience.

There is room for advancement for the right person.
